Selected Shovellers Sip and Socialize at Sailing Club

The Select Society of Sanitary Sludge Shovellers (5S) convened their annual luncheon meeting on June 10, 1998 at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club in Toronto. As in past years, the attendees found the surroundings very gracious and conducive to renewing acquaintances in a relaxed atmosphere.

Sid Dutton, as usual, efficiently presided over the post-prandial proceedings welcoming the newest inductees to the Society: Don Redfern and Steve Davey.

Sid noted the passing of Jim Hooper in the past year. George Crawford had met Jim’s widow and reported that she and the family were bearing up well.

Once again, some members were out of the country and were not able to attend the luncheon. Phil Parry (India) and Brian Evans (Abu Dhabi) were notable absentees. Terry Matthews, after a period of absence in Thailand, has now returned to Canada in the employ of Zenon Environmental Inc. Sid mentioned that he had heard from Mae Grove who was now living in Stroud.

Personal reminiscences of experienced 5S members have become very popular reading. Erv McIntyre and Orlando Martini agreed to provide personal histories for the 5S Newsletter. These will be reprinted for your enjoyment.
