International Water and Wastewater Certification Awards for Ontario

Ontario's Water and Wastewater Certification Program and manager Brian Gildner have received North American-wide awards from the Association of the Boards of Certification.

The program's outstanding contribution to advancing the knowledge and performance of environmental professionals has been recognized with the 2016 Certification Program Award. Brian Gildner was honoured with the Robert C. McAnespie Outstanding Certification Officer Award for his leadership in the development of North American-wide certification standards.

The certification program's win makes Ontario only the second Canadian jurisdiction to receive this award in the last 20 years. It is a great achievement to be selected for these awards by an organization that recognizes the highest standards of excellence in training and certification.

Ontario's accomplishments in professional certification include:

  • being the first Canadian jurisdiction to introduce mandatory entry-level training and develop a code of conduct for operators
  • introducing rigorous continuing education requirements, including a unique mandatory course
  • leading the development of Canadian best practices which were the springboard for ABC's model standards.

Water professionals' skills are fundamental to delivering safe drinking water and protecting public health. Ontario's comprehensive certification and training program ensures water and wastewater systems have fully qualified and trained staff.
