MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION
The
Water Environment Association of Ontario (WEAO) is dedicated to the transfer
of information and concepts regarding all areas of the water environment. We
provide a valuable network for those involved in pollution abatement.
WEAO is a member association of the
Water Environment Federation (WEF), an international organization with a
vision of "Clean Water Everywhere". Membership in WEF is
approximately 41,000. Founded in 1928, the
Water Environment Federation (WEF®) is a not-for-profit technical and
educational organization with members from varied disciplines who work toward
the WEF vision of preservation and enhancement of the global water
environment. The WEF
network includes water quality professional from 79 Member Associations in over
30 countries.
WEAO has adopted the Vision of
"A Clean Water Environment, Today and
Tomorrow".
The Association has a membership comprised of scientists, operators,
engineers, and students dedicated to improving the water
environment. The approximately 1,300 members come from consulting
firms, industries, equipment manufacturers, municipalities, colleges
and universities, and provincial and federal government agencies.
The Association serves its membership by organizing a number of
seminars each year, as well as an annual conference. The membership
is updated on current issues through the publication of its
newsletter.
In order to
serve the different interests of the members we offer a number of
membership options. You may become an Active member of WEAO
only for membership solely in Ontario, or you may choose from a range of
different membership types (e.g. Student, YP, PWO) by joining through
our parent organization, WEF, and adding membership in the
WEAO.

Student Membership
Regularly enrolled college or university students who spend at least
half of their time on course work can qualify for Student Memberships in
WEF. Students pay the already low WEF membership fee and the WEAO’s
membership fee is waived. More details here:

New Professional Membership
Good news for New Professionals, membership fees in WEF’s Young
Professionals (YP) category are discounted by 50% for the first 3 years
of membership. Join through WEF and the WEAO will discount our
membership rate by 50% also for first 3 years. More details here:

Professional Wastewater Operator Membership
Because of the uniqueness of the operator, WEF established a category
and tailored it especially to their needs: Professional Wastewater
Operators (PWO). To qualify one must be actively employed by the
responsible operating entity on the facility site on a day-to-day basis
in the operation and maintenance of wastewater collection facilities,
wastewater treatment facilities, or wastewater laboratories provided for
such treatment facilities.

Among the benefits of belonging to
WEF are authoritative monthly publications on water quality related
issues, membership discounts on all Federation publications (including Manuals
of Practice), membership rates for all federation conferences, Group Insurance.
For the PWO member WEF offers Operations Forum, a monthly publication
dedicated exclusively to the issues of operations and maintenance of wastewater
facilities.
