THE FOURTH WEAO STUDENT DESIGN COMPETITION

Test your environmental design skills! Work on a real design problem with a consultant & municipality! Winning team gets expenses-paid trip to New Orleans, LA to compete at WEFTEC in 2012!

The Water Environment Association of Ontario (WEAO) New Professionals Committee (NPC) is pleased to announce the upcoming Fourth WEAO Student Design Competition 2012. This competition is intended to promote “real world” design experience for students interested in pursuing an education and/or career in water/wastewater engineering and sciences. This competition will be held at WEAO Annual Symposium on April 22, 2012, in Ottawa, ON.

The student design competition concept is based on the Water Environment Federation (WEF) WEF^® Student Design Competition, a competition held annually at WEFTEC. The WEAO Student Design Competition is intended to select a winning team among Universities and Colleges in Ontario that will compete at the WEF^® Student Design Competition at WEFTEC in October 2012 in New Orleans, LA.

This year’s design problem has been kindly provided by The Norfolk County for the upgrade/expansion of the Port Dover Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP) in the town of Port Dover. The project statement requests that students review background information, evaluate potential alternatives, develop design ideas and present a program meeting the requirements of the design challenge. Entry is open to all full-time college and university students in Ontario.

WEAO Student Design Competition (SDC) Schedule

Date	ACTION ITEM – WEAO Competition
November 3, 2011	WEAO NPC announces the Student Design Competition 2012 and publishes the project statement and guidelines.
November 18, 2011	Deadline for teams to submit the Entry Form.
December 2011	Facility site tour.
January 23, 2012	Deadline for submitting the project progress report (1 page).
March 30, 2012	Deadline for participating teams to submit the design report and CDs. Package shall be postmarked no later than this date.
April 22, 2012	SDC presentations at the 41st Annual WEAO Technical Symposium and OPCEA Exhibition at the Ottawa Convention Centre.
