WEAO’s Residual and Biosolids Committee is bringing a series of presentations and panel discussions to provide a regulatory and research update on various emerging substances in residuals and biosolids on Dec 4, 2019. As the presence of persistent organic pollutants such as Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) and microplastics in biosolids is becoming a concern, this seminar aims to share the latest findings and studies from government and research institutes to educate the WEAO community about the new challenges and the path forward for the beneficial uses of biosolids
Tour Details: Southgate Eco Park, Dundalk ON Tuesday, December 3rd
1:00 pm: Tour of Walker’s GroBark Composting Site: The Grobark Dundalk site processes leaf and yard waste through open windrow composting. It also produces a variety of mulches, which are sold to local garden centres.
2:00 pm: Tour of Southgate OMRC Regional Biosolids Processing Facility: Regional biosolids and organics materials processing facility that receives third-party residuals from public and private generators in the region. Using the Lystek THP technology, this facility produces a CFIA registered fertilizer that is sold to area farmers. Tour of land application program to follow weather dependent.
